Re-imagine Africa at the Design Indaba Festival 2016

February 12, 2016

Since 1995, Design Indaba has been on a mission to re-imagine Africa and inspire a whole new generation of reformers, thinkers, dreamers, and doers with firsthand accounts from the world's best creative exponents.

From February 11 to 19, Design Indaba Festival 2016 will bring its annual celebration of creativity to five South African cities, showcasing design across a variety of formats and empowering the local creative economy. This event brings together a widely varied programme of talks, exhibits, film, music and other special performances. Visitors to the 2016 event can expect to find a veritable theatre of creativity.

Conference

For the first time, Design Indaba Festival moves its annual conference to Artscape Theatre, in a renewed format of the annual festival of creativity. A variety of exhibitions and special features will happen alongside the flagship event and live broadcasts via simulcast to selected Southern African cities.

FilmFest

Design Indaba FilmFest is Design Indaba's annual celebration of film. Ten nights of screening ten premieres to the African continent, showcasing feature films and documentaries that cover design and the creative industries.

Emerging Creatives

The Emerging Creatives' work will be showcased to retail buyers and media from around the world. A year-long programme of support, mentorship and guidance in how to manage and grow small businesses will run alongside the opportunity to show their creative work to further propel their creative careers.

MBOISA

Beauty is a deeply subjective – even divisive – experience. Every year, Design Indaba invites South Africans to think of how they define beauty and cast their votes to determine what represents that idea in our country.

There are 10 nominations chosen by influential cultural commentators in South African culture.
