Sponsored by mobile operator Vodacom, Durban July is Africa's greatest horse racing event that takes place annually during the first weekend of July. Even though this is a horse racing event, over the years it has become more of a fashion and social event for people from the beautiful province of Kwazulu Natal in Durban. Throughout the weekend, people come dressed in all sorts of fashion trends while driving luxurious and flashy cars. As a vacation destination, Durban July attracts thousands of people, boosting the economy of Durban during that weekend.
The fashion theme for this year was "Diamonds are forever they say, so add a subtle touch of glitz, to take the style bouquet" and a lot of fashion was seen in and around the race track.
Inside the race course there was various Marquee's from different event organizers, like Afrotaiment Marquee, Jack Daniels Marquee, Metro FM Marquee, and Mabala Noise Marquee, to name a few. People with reserved seats enjoyed themselves with live entertainment from mostly local artists.
After the main event ended, there were various afterparties was at the Moses Mabhida stadium, one of the stadiums that hosted games from the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The Fact Durban Rocks afterparty, hosted by the Durban local Dj Tira, had 100% South African artists, most notably Black Coffee who recently won a BET Award in America.
The Mother Of All Parties afterparty hosted by Dj Bongs had famous international artists like Chris Brown, Slum Village, Eve, Tinashe, as well as other local South African artists. This was the first time international artists have performed during the Durban July weekend.
The weekend celebration didn't end on Saturday. On Sunday the vibe was still hype around Durban's entertainment venues, like Max Lifestyle and Eyadini Lounge, as well as the hip hop party PopBottles.
With all the exciting activities that happened throughout the weekend, it was a memorable event to cover and we're looking forward to next year!
